Susan Elizabeth Healy

Susan Elizabeth Healy, loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on December 26, 2023, at age 56. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on October 23, 1967, to John and Margaret (Peggy) Healy of Longmeadow, Massachusetts and later Tequesta, Florida. Susan grew up in Tequesta where she excelled in academics and music, especially the flute, which she proudly played in the high school marching band. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Boston College and started her career in finance with Arthur Andersen in Boston. Susan later transitioned to the world of private equity, where she built a successful career in investor relations. Susan’s career took her from top cities in the US - Boston, Washington, DC, and New York – to the UK with a stint in London, eventually settling in Chicago, making it her home these last ten years. Susan was renowned for her sharp-witted humor, enthusiastic determination, and boundless generosity. She cherished her close friendships in both Chicago and beyond, always prioritizing her family and friends by either hosting gatherings or travelling to reunite with them for holidays, special events, or just to spend quality time together. A lover of cats, Susan shared much of her adult life with her beloved companions, Guinness and Killian. While she preferred feline company, Susan also had a soft spot for dogs, even though she would never confess to being a “dog person”. In fact, there were a handful of exceptional pups she welcomed into her home and volunteered to pet-sit for weekends or have them over to hang out with friends. She was a wonderful “dog aunt” and provided a warm and welcoming environment for furry friends – just not on the living room furniture. Susan was well-traveled and loved history, especially her family’s ancestry, which she traced backed to Ireland. On trips to Ireland, of which there were many, she eagerly scoured old records and explored ancient cemeteries to uncover the stories of her ancestors, tracing their journey to Massachusetts from Ireland. Her enthusiasm for genealogy was not limited to her own family, as Susan willingly assisted her friends in their own quests for familial information. Beyond exploring ancestral roots, Susan’s wanderlust led her to explore a myriad of destinations, encompassing every continent save Antarctica. Above all, Susan loved visiting Ireland and made a point of returning as recently as September 2023, demonstrating her deep connection to her Irish heritage. Susan joins her dad, John Healy, in heaven and is survived by her mother, Peggy, brother Michael, sister-in-law, Denise, her nephew and niece – John and Katie, many cousins and too many friends to mention, who will be fondly remembered by her family as “Susan’s Village”. A visitation and Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 starting at 9:30 am (10am mass) at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1429 W. Wellington, Chicago, 60657.
