David Darling

David James Darling, age 72, a Chicago, IL resident for many years, died on July 27, 2025 peacefully at home in Edgewater.

David was born on November 27, 1952, in Indiana. He grew up in Decatur, IN.

He graduated from the University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. In January 1976, David moved to Chicago, IL, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

He worked in the United States Health and Human Services Department from 1980 to 2010. On May 1, 1977, David and Ron Fritsch began residing together. They were united in a civil union (equivalent to a marriage) on July 6, 2011. They remained together to the end of David’s life.

David is survived by Ron; his brothers Tony (Brenda) Darling of Fort Wayne, IN, Steve Darling, Ron (Becky) Darling, and Tom (Julie) Darling all of Decatur, IN; his sisters, Sandy (Skip) Hamilton of Fort Wayne IN, Karen (Wayne) Porter of Decatur, IN, Lois Darling (Theresa Dailey) of Sequim, WA, and Joyce (Marty) Martin of Decatur, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents Helen (nee Alter) and Robert Darling of Decatur, IN.
