Carlos Arturo Prieto

Carlos Arturo Prieto, 66, aka “Charlie”, the sixth child of the late Dr. Jorge Prieto and Luz Maria Davila de Prieto, passed away suddenly at home in Chicago on March 18, 2024. Charlie was the retired foreman at the Evanston Lumber Company. He was also the warmest, loving and most generous person you could ever hope to meet. Charlie loved sports, playing baseball (later softball as an adult), basketball, hockey, football, and broomball and excelled both as a player and a coach. His nickname was “Charlierange” because he was such a terrific shortstop. He graduated from St. Nicholas Catholic School in Evanston and Quigley North Seminary and played baseball at St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN. After his playing days, Charlie become a devoted and beloved coach of youth baseball and football in Evanston for the Evanston Baseball & Softball Association and Evanston Catholic, a team made up of a group of schools too small to field their own football teams, with his good friend, Brian Rosinski. Carlos coached the way he played, always with a smile and genuine enthusiasm. He will be dearly missed by his players and their families. Charlie was the adored husband and best friend of his devoted wife of ten years, Yin Li (“Linda”) and loving brother of Luz Maria (Luis W., D.), Jorge (Paula F.), Carmen (Sam G.), Francisco Javier (Yolanda V.), Antonio M. (Cecilia Q.), Miguel J., Margarita (Mark M.), and Lupe (René S.). He was the favorite uncle of fourteen and great uncle of fifteen. Dear son-in-law of David Li and Weslie Zhang and faithful companion of Willa, the one-eyed terrier. Carlos’ family has chosen green cremation, in accordance with his wishes. Memorial visitation Saturday, May 11, 9am-11am (mass begins at 11am) at St. Nicholas Catholic Church (St. John XXIII Parish), 806 Ridge Ave., Evanston, IL 60202.
