Alan Dale

Alan Dale, 49, of Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood, passed away January 23, 2024. Born in Keighley, West Yorkshire, Alan and his sisters grew up living in their parents’ guesthouse, The Cedars Hotel, in Morecambe's West End - or as Alan called it "The Gateway to The Lake District". They shared many fond memories playing with “The Allen Girls” and "The Newtons", who were childhood friends. He enjoyed singing in the children’s choir and was once cast lead role of “Oliver!” After graduating from Morecambe High School, Alan earned his Higher National Diploma in Management from Fife College in Scotland and began a long and fulfilling career in Management and Human Resources. He moved to London in 1994 and worked at Tesco across several stores progressing through positions of increased responsibility over 16 years. He took a career break in 2000 and travelled the world, during which he lived in Bali for 6 months. He eventually returned to London and met his life partner Tony Pires in 2002 where they both lived before moving to Sydney, Australia together in 2010. In Australia Alan was an HR team leader for Australia’s largest company. In 2017, Alan and Tony moved to the U.S. and joined Gap, Inc. where he first served as Mid-Atlantic and then East Coast HR Manager. Alan was a free spirit who was always making plans! He was deeply proud of his Italian heritage, and LOVED to host, entertain, and feed those he loved. Always the optimist, Alan's motto was "what's for you won't pass you by!" Cherished husband of 14 years (together for 22) of Tony Pires. Beloved son of Alan Dale and the late Antonietta Dale of Morecambe, Lancashire. Loving brother of Tracy, Nicola, Alanya, and Leah. Dear brother-in-law of Dean McBride and Miguel and Paula Pires; son-in-law of Elisa and Antonio Pires. Adoring uncle of Joshua, Mia, Luca, Ines, and Beatriz. Also a faithful dog-daddy of Stewie and Bryan the Jack Russell Terriers. Alan was also dearly loved by his Italian family and others in the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, and Australia. His ashes will be housed and one day taken to Portugal, where Tony and Alan planned to retire.
