Tammy Wood

Tammy S. Wood died on January 9, 2026 with her family by her side while her favorite music filled the room. She was 63. A devoted mother, she loved genealogy, antiquing, eating good food, and cruising around in the car with the windows down blasting music. Born May 1, 1962 to George and Dorothy Biermann, Tammy was number six of seven children. She was a tomboyish little girl who loved spending time with her siblings, riding bikes or listening to music together. Her outgoing personality helped keep her from getting lost in the crowd of her family. It also meant she could make friends anywhere she went. That ability served her well as between 1969 and 1978 her mother moved from Rolling Meadows, Illinois to Shoreacres, Texas, back to Rolling Meadows, and finally to Wonder Lake, Illinois. It was while living in Wonder Lake, in the house she’d later buy from her mother, that Tammy graduated from McHenry Community High School in 1980. Tammy prided herself on the fact that she worked hard for everything she had. She worked many jobs over the years, including briefly co-owning a service station with her first husband. Though it was her time as a teller at McHenry State Bank that would have the greatest impact on her life as that is where she met the man who would become her second husband, George Wood. Tammy and George were married in July of 1989 and spent the next 36 years of their lives together. In August of 1992 Tammy gave birth to her miracle baby, Abbey. Not long after she quit working so she could dedicate herself to being a mother. She became a fixture in Abbey’s classrooms as a frequent volunteer and field trip chaperone. Tammy cared about education and enjoyed being of service, so she started a volunteer program at her daughter’s school, Harrison, where parents could come in and assist the teachers. Tammy’s infectious laughter and unbreakable spirit will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Scott, Peggy, Georgie, and Tommy, and many others whom she loved. She is survived by her husband George; daughter Abbey; sisters Kathy Rowley (Dave) and Jill (Jerry) Lawson; sisters-in-law Pam Biermann, Jackie Biermann, and Kerrie Biermann; brother-in-law Chuck Milbratz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Following a private viewing Tammy was cremated through a process called alkaline hydrolysis, or aquamation. Friends and family are invited to an open house celebration, replete with games, music, hors d’oeuvres, and bubbles.
