Ricardo Centeno Gonzales Jr, MD., 88, of Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood, formerly of Orland Park, Illinois; passed away March 1, 2025. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Lolita Pangilinan Gonzales. Born in the Philippines to Ricardo Baldonado Gonzales and Patria Luz Centeno Gonzales. Devoted father of Sheila (Jonathan) Gonzales-Jonasz of Miami and Rosalie “Rose” (Noel Battung) Gonzales and Richard “John” Gonzales of Chicago. Adoring grandfather (“Lolo”) of Ryan Austin Jonasz, Noah Ethan Jonasz, and Zoe Erin Jonasz. Dear brother of Zenaida Gonzales Alvarez. Ricardo moved to the United States, initially to Elkins Park, Pennsylvania and then settling and raising a family in Orland Park, Illinois. He graduated from Manila Central University and went on to become a private Family Practice Physician in Markham, Illinois and with Advocate South Suburban Hospital for 25 years. He also worked at Norwegian American Hospital and Little Company of Mary Hospital. He was an active member of the community and served as President to Samahan Sa Baryo, Manila Central University Medical Alumni in America and President of the Medical Board at South Suburban Hospital. Dr. Gonzales’ humanitarian work included medical missions to the Philippines. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and commitment to others, which led him to enlist in the United States Air Force Reserve where he proudly served his country for 12 years. During his service, he was stationed at Rantoul Air Force Base, holding the rank of Major and specializing in the Air Force Medical Corps as a Physician. He participated in active duty at Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas, Travis Airforce Base in Fairfield, California, and Nellis Airforce Base in Clark County, Nevada. His service, while part-time, was integral, supporting his fellow servicemen and women providing medical care. He was deeply respected by his colleagues and cherished by all who knew him. His work was not just a career; it was a reflection of his passion and commitment to helping others. Known as "Ric" amongst his friends and family, he was also known for his soft-spoken sense of humor, compassion, and kindness. In his free time, he enjoyed watching sports especially basketball and baseball, going to the casino and playing “mahjong” with his friends. A devout Catholic, Ric, along with his beloved wife, Lolita, hosted prayer groups at their residence in Orland Park. All were welcome there and enjoyed the fellowship of exciting game nights, food, and lively conversations. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 6, 11:00am. The Funeral mass will be at 12 noon at St. Ita Catholic Church, 5500 N. Broadway, Chicago, IL 60640. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to a charity yet to be named.
