Marcia Douglas

Marcia Lynnette Douglas, 64, retired License Practical Nurse; formerly of Dowagiac, Cassopolis and Edwardsburg, Michigan; passed away April 10, 2025. Born in Dowagiac, Michigan, Marcia graduated from Dowagiac Union High School where she was a cheerleader and head drum majorette of the Chieftains Marching Band. She served in the United States Army before returning to Dowagiac to start her family. In 1988, she earned her LPN degree and later worked for many years at various nursing homes and was committed to caring for the elderly. Later, she earned her Bachelor’s degree from an online program. Marcia was an adventurer. She served as a traveling nurse and drove an 18-wheeler. She played the saxophone and loved loud rock music like Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, and Smashmouth. Marcia was a natural athlete, tall and strong and enjoyed sports, particularly watching football. She loved and advocated for her nephews and grandchildren and nursed her sister at the end of her life. Marcia was a force and boundless generosity was one of her greatest gifts . Proud mother of Dannielle “Dannie” Leigh Shaw of Chicago and Stephanie Shaw (James) Hill of Sturgis, Michigan, and Ben Kim, former spouse of Stephanie. Adored grandmother “Granny” of Zora Lynnette Shaw and Leland, Sheridan, Julian Shaw Kim, and Serena Shaw Hill. Daughter of Lavirda Jean Douglas (nee Hughes). Oldest sibling (feared and revered!) of Patricia (Andre) Scott, Anthony (Sharon), Michael, and the late Araminta Jane “A.J.” Douglas, and younger sister to cousins/honorary siblings James “Bud” Parker and Denise Childs. Dear aunt of Christina, Allison, Adrienne, Cassandra, Camille, Sarah, Catrinka, Alan, Michael, and Destiny. Preceded in death by infant son Adam Marshall Shaw, father Marshall Roberts Douglas, and nephews Andre Scott, Jr. and Brandon Douglas. Former spouse of Charles John Shaw and the late Terry Howard. Marcia was loved and will be fiercely missed. Private burial of cremated remains on what would have been her 65th birthday at Mission Hills Cemetery in Niles, Michigan.
