Lorinda Lorenza Cruz Castillo

Lorenza Castillo (born Lorinda Lorenza Cruz), 81, of Buffalo Grove, slipped away quietly and peacefully, to the sounds of family’s loving chattering in the background, on September 25, 2024. Born in Sa Cariogan, Pasig City, Philippines, Lorenza graduated from Cayetano Arellano High School in Manila and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from José Rizal University in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines. One fine day Lorenza was walking down the street when she was spied through a window by a young man. Antonio was so taken by Lorenza’s long black hair, he leapt out of the barber’s chair in which he was receiving a haircut and raced after her. The couple married in the late 60’s, Antonio moved to the United States, and his pregnant bride soon followed. After taking a “break” to raise their daughter, Lorenza returned to work in accounting, including more than 15 years at Johnson Publications and another decade at American Express. In retirement, Lorenza and Antonio became snowbirds, enjoying half the year in Pasig City with their many friends. Beloved wife of over 40 years to the late Antonio B. Castillo, Jr. Devoted mother of Lady Lorraine Castillo “Jeck” (Larry) Mulvaney of Lake Forest, IL and Emarr “Tony” (Emily) Castillo of Fairfield, CA. Adoring grandmother (“Mumzie”, “Lola”, “Grandma Lori”) of Christian Jay “C.J.” (Kimberly) Lopez, Alexis Jordan Lopez, Sabrina Adeleine Mulvaney, Dash Anthony Castillo, and MacKenzie Castillo. Proud great-grandmother of Jace Christian Lopez and Jori Daniel Lopez. Loving sister of Teofila “Ely” Apin, Irenea “Nene” Garcia, and Ireneo “Ernie” Cruz. Loving aunt of Maria “Chiqui” Santos and many others. Preceded in death by parents Feliciano N. Cruz and Jacinta Antonio Cruz, siblings Magdalena “Daling” Martinez, Emiliano Cruz, and Mario Cruz, and infant granddaughter Alana Mulvaney. The family has chosen private cremation services. All are welcome to the memorial mass on Tuesday, October 8, 11am, St. Mary Catholic Church 10 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove, IL, immediately followed by placement of cremated remains at St. Mary Cemetery, Buffalo Grove.
