Joseph Albert Miera

Joseph Albert Miera, 54, passed away unexpectedly at home in Chicago’s Winnemac Park neighborhood on November 11, 2024. Joe was born on March 27, 1970, in Santa Fe, New Mexico To Claudette and Albert. When he was young, he moved to Denver with his mother, where he grew up and helped raise his brother R.J. After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1989, Joe earned his bachelor’s degree in German from the University of Denver in 1993, enjoying two years abroad at the University of Tübingen in southwest Germany. He earned his master’s degree in Germanic Language and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1995 before moving to Chicago, where he worked in many different fields and made friends that became his family. He earned his certificate in paralegal studies from Loyola University School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies in 2005 and worked as a paralegal at Kluever & Platt, LLC. Joe loved to travel and had been all over the world including Japan, Germany, and China. He enjoyed knitting with friends, baking, and reading. He loved his canine friends Sprocket the Schnauzer and the late Ianto and Manu and posted their pictures often. Joe was selective in who he chose to be in his life, but if you were one of them then you know how amazing it could be. He was funny, yet somewhat serious, knowledgeable, and loved to correct one’s grammar. He loved eating all ethnicities of food, which meant you were always going to get to try something new with him. Joe is survived by his loving aunt Deborah Trujillo and cousin Tabitha Bufmack of Centennial, Colorado, as well as his father Joseph Albert Miera Sr., grandmother Pauline Spahn Martinez, aunt Roberta Gallegos, uncle Richard Sanchez, and many other cousins. Joe was predeceased by his mother Claudette (Sanchez) Dewitt, grandfather John Henry Spahn, and brother Ronald John (“R.J.”) Henry Dunphy. His friends and loved ones will truly miss him. Joe loved with his whole heart, even if not expressed with words. He was a friend, a nephew, a son, a brother, and cousin. Spread your wings and fly; we will live on for you.
