Elvira DeBorde

Elvira DeBorde, 83, of Villa Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by her adoring family on Sunday, November 20. She was born to her cherished mother, Maria Petra Del Angel in Tampico, Mexico on January 25, 1939. In 1968, Elvira immigrated to the United States and settled in the Logan Square community of Chicago. Elvira worked tirelessly for her family and soon her mother and three of her four children, Ana, Juan, and Elvira joined her in Chicago. During this time she welcomed a second son, Donald Jr. (Donnie) who completed her family. In 2001, she left the hustle and bustle of the big city and settled in Villa Park where she lived with her daughter Elvira, son-in-law Miguel, and grandchildren Alison and Jonathan. Elvira, or ‘Nana’ as she was known to her grandchildren, was the beloved matriarch of an extensive immediate family and is survived by her four children Ana Laura Gutierrez, Juan Miguel ‘Johnny’ Aguilar (Ramon), Elvira ‘Vira’ Aguilar (Miguel), and Donald ‘Donnie’ DeBorde Jr. (Wendy). Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Nina Del Angel, Jesse Gonzalez (Carolina), Michael Aguilar-Dale (Anthony), Anthony DeBorde (Mollie), Nathan DeBorde, Alison Gutierrez (Eduardo), Jonathan Aguilar (Carlee), six great-grandchildren Laura Gonzalez (Shawn), Benjamin Gonzalez (Samantha), Briana Gonzalez, Jesse Gonzalez Jr., Ella Gonzalez, Marcel DeBorde, great-great grandson Lucien Gresham, and countless treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Petra, brothers Fransisco and Popis, and sister Paula. Elvira will be remembered most for her pure, unconditional love of her family and for her steadfast faith. She could always be counted on to hug you as only a mother could, fill your spirit with God’s grace, leave you with a full belly and a word of wisdom. Her absence in the lives of her family will always be felt but the love she gave them will carry on through the generations she so proudly shepherded. Funeral mass will take place at 10:00AM Friday, November 25 at the Chapel of St. Joseph at Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe 1170 North River Road, Des Plaines, Illinois 60016. Graveside service will follow at Maryhill Catholic Cemtery, Niles, Illinois. As she was an ardent supporter of other women and mothers, the family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in Elvira’s name to Mujeres Latinas en Accion, a Chicago community agency that provides social services, education, and crisis support to Latinas in Chicago and across the country.
